Thirteen years ago, someone had a bold idea, gather a community, tell the truth about child sexual abuse, and refuse to look away. What started as a conversation has grown into a movement. One table, one story, one supporter at a time.

You were part of that movement this year. And we are so grateful.

This year's Be Brave Luncheons asked us to do three things: reflect on the past, show up in the present, and build hope for the future. The stories in those rooms, on May 6th in Edmonton and May 8th in Calgary, did exactly that.

Luka, a graduate of the Be Brave Ranch, showed us what the future looks like. She stood before a room full of strangers, shared her story with grace and courage, and then performed an original song she wrote, titled "World Worth Fighting For." But one of the most quietly powerful moments happened not on a stage; it happened at the Ranch. When a fellow participant said it wasn't working, that she didn't feel healed, Luka leaned in and added one small word: yet. It's not working yet. You aren't healed yet.

That single word holds everything. It transforms a feeling of being stuck into a journey forward. It creates space for hope, for patience, for the belief that where you are right now is not where you will always be. And it speaks directly to the work we are all doing together. We haven't eliminated child sexual abuse yet. We haven't reached every child who needs support yet. We haven't told every survivor they are believed, that they matter, that healing is possible, yet. But we are getting there. One workshop, one child, one family, one luncheon at a time. And with people like you in our corner, yet feels closer every single day.

Elizabeth Smart reminded us, in both cities, that the work of protection begins long before harm occurs. It begins with education, teaching children about their bodies, their boundaries, and their right to feel safe. And it continues the moment a child comes forward, with the adults in their lives choosing to believe them, stand with them, and support them without question. Her words were not just inspiring; they were a charge to each of us to do better, know more, and show up differently for the children in our lives.

Because of your presence and your generosity across Edmonton and Calgary, more children and families will find their way to the Be Brave Ranch, a place where the past is met with compassion, the present is held with care, and the future is full of possibility.
