Little Warriors is proud to share that our team has contributed to another important piece of published research, this time examining one of the most urgent and underexplored areas in child sexual abuse treatment.

"Interventions that address suicidal thoughts and behaviours in youth with a history of childhood sexual abuse: A scoping review," published in Children and Youth Services Review, takes a comprehensive look at the current evidence on reducing suicidal ideation and self-harm in children and adolescents who have experienced child sexual abuse.

The review analyzed 13 studies and confirmed what many in the field have long understood: youth with a history of child sexual abuse face a significantly elevated risk of suicidal ideation and non-suicidal self-injury. The findings point toward multimodal, trauma-focused interventions that integrate cognitive behavioural therapy as the most effective approach to reducing these thoughts and behaviours.

Importantly, the review also identifies a critical gap. With significant variation in study designs and approaches across the existing literature, there is a clear and pressing need for further research into best-practice standards for this population.

At Little Warriors, this is exactly why research matters. Every gap identified is an opportunity to do better, to strengthen the care we provide, to advocate for evidence-based standards across the country, and to ensure that every child and adolescent who comes to us receives treatment grounded in the best available evidence.
