Take Action to Help Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Empower yourself with the tools and knowledge to make a difference.
Developed in collaboration with researchers at the University of Alberta, Prevent It! is a free, evidence-based workshop that equips adults with practical strategies to help prevent child sexual abuse and respond safely and sensitively when concerns arise.
Using the proven STOP framework - Study, Talk, Observe, Prepare for Action - participants will learn how to:

Recognize signs of abuse and grooming behaviours

Safeguard children online and in higher-risk environments

Start sensitive, age-appropriate conversations about child sexual abuse

Respond appropriately and supportively when a child discloses abuse

Understand child protection laws and reporting requirements

Use comprehensive workbooks, checklists, and visual tools to support learning

Become a Facilitator
A Volunteer Facilitator delivers the Prevent It! workshop in communities across Canada. If you are passionate about prevention, enjoy public speaking, and want to make a meaningful impact, this role may be for you.
Requirements:

Complete the Prevent It! workshop (online or in person)

Be available for 4-hour sessions (including setup and delivery)

Be able to travel within your community and surrounding areas
Training & Commitment:

Attend an 8-hour Volunteer Facilitator Workshop (with pre-reading)

Commit to a minimum one-year term and at least one workshop per month

Pay a $100 fee to cover training materials and facilitation costs

What is the Prevent It! Workshop?
Developed with researchers from the University of Alberta and Little Warriors, the Prevent It! workshop equips adults with tools to help reduce children’s vulnerability to sexual abuse. Offered both in-person and online, the workshop teaches participants to Study, Talk, Observe, and Prepare for Action:

Where do you offer in-person workshops?
We offer in-person Prevent It! workshops delivered by our trained volunteer facilitators. Currently, we have active facilitators in the following communities:
Alberta: Airdrie, Calgary, Camrose, Drayton Valley, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Hay Lakes, Hinton, Innisfail, Leduc, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Ponoka, Okotoks, Westlock, Wetaskiwin
British Columbia: Burnaby, Cranbrook, Elkford, Fernie, Invermere, Kelowna
Saskatchewan: Onion Lake, Saskatoon, Swift Current
Manitoba: Steinbach, Winnipeg

Can individuals register for the workshop?
Yes. Individuals can register for:

Self-paced online workshops that can be completed anytime
The workshop is designed for participants 18 and older. Youth aged 16–17 may attend with a signed parental or guardian consent form. Email preventit@littlewarriors.ca to receive the form before registering.
Is there a fee for the workshop?
Prevent It! is offered free of charge to individual participants, both in-person and online. Donations are appreciated, and contributions over $25 receive a tax receipt.
For group bookings where facilitators must travel, a fee may apply to cover mileage, accommodations, meals, and materials. In the Netherlands, a small fee may be charged for workbook shipping.
Can I host an in-person workshop for a group at our location?
Yes. Complete the Group Booking Form online and provide a few date and time options. We will assign a Volunteer Facilitator and confirm the workshop date.

What’s required if I want to host a group workshop?
To host a group workshop, you will need:

A room available for 4 hours with seating for all participants

AV equipment (TV/DVD player or laptop, projector, and speakers) and someone to operate it, or notify us if not available

To provide a list of registered participants 3–5 days before the session for individualized certificates
-
To set up the room and ensure equipment is working before the workshop
-
To meet the facilitator 30 minutes prior to the session for setup

Who facilitates your workshops?
Prevent It! workshops are delivered by Volunteer Facilitators, who play a key role in helping Little Warriors prevent child sexual abuse across Canada.
Our facilitators are passionate about community and prevention, and all go through comprehensive screening, training, and monitoring before leading workshops.
Note: Facilitators are volunteers and are not counsellors.
